There are some kitchen worktops that look beautiful, and then there are some that completely change the feel of a kitchen. This recent kitchen worktop installation in Harrogate was definitely the latter.

Our customer wanted something with character. Something warm, bold and completely different from the more familiar quartz colours you often see in modern kitchens. The choice was D’Angelo Quartzite, a stunning natural stone with rich caramel and coffee tones, dramatic natural veining and plenty of detail running through the surface. And the best part? At the time of the project, there was only one slab of this particular stone available in the country. We managed to secure it, supply it, fabricate it and bring the whole project together for our customer.

A quartzite worktop with real character

D’Angelo is one of those stones that is difficult to appreciate properly from a small sample.

Across the full slab, you get layers of gorgeous coffee, caramel and warm neutral tones, mixed with bold natural veins that move through the stone. Every section has its own little details, making the finished worktops feel completely individual. It was a strong colour choice for the kitchen, but that was exactly what made it work.

Rather than choosing something safe and predictable, our customer went for a surface that gives the kitchen a real focal point. The natural movement in the quartzite adds depth without making the room feel too busy, while the warmer tones bring a really welcoming feel to the space.

A bespoke U shaped kitchen in Harrogate

The kitchen was designed in a practical U shape, giving plenty of worktop space while allowing the natural beauty of the D’Angelo Quartzite to run throughout the room.We supplied and installed the quartzite kitchen worktops, complete with matching upstands and a splashback, creating a cohesive finish around the kitchen. We also fabricated the window shelves from the same stone. It is a small detail, but one we think makes a big difference. Carrying the same material onto the window shelves ties everything together and gives the room that properly finished, bespoke feel.

The DuPont edge detail

One of our favourite details on this project was the DuPont edge profile.Rather than keeping the edge completely square, the DuPont detail introduces a subtle stepped profile towards the bottom of the worktop. It adds a little more definition to the edge while keeping the overall look clean and contemporary. With a natural stone like D’Angelo Quartzite, these details really matter. The edge is something you see and touch every day, so getting the profile right can make a surprisingly big difference to the finished kitchen.
